blog #431 >> Christmas Wish List 2010

Today is "chore day." I have a million things to do, and I don't want to do any of them right now. The bathroom needs to be cleaned. My living room floor is covered in little bits of yarn and felt. I'm almost out of bread and a few other staples. The kitchen floor is a mess, and if the houseplants could speak, they'd tell me they're really getting very thirsty. But I don't feel like doing any of those things. I want "lazy day" instead of "chore day". So I'm going to do something a little out of the ordinary for me... I'm going to procrastinate and blog instead.

I know it seems a little early to be posting a Christmas wish list. But in reality I know this is about 6 months too late. My entire family is made up of early shoppers, and they always tell me I'm the easiest one to buy for. So really this is more like my annual list of neat things.

Vintage 70's Victorian-Inspired Plaid Dress - $34.00

I know it's kind-of a matronly looking thing with a splash of pioneer, but I really like it.

from Sarah Culleton at etsy

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Cottage Tea Cozy
from Frames for All Occasions at etsy
Amy, if I had a picture of the one you already made me, I'd post it here instead... BECAUSE IT'S ADORABLE! But since I don't, and I suppose I'm not really suppose to know about it, I just posted a picture of this one instead.

Hand Painted Milk Glass Buttons - $15.00
from Colorado Finds on etsy

from Orange and Yellow on etsy

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Vintage Brown Hairpins - $3.50
from Endless C on etsy
These ones seem to be sold, but I found some still in the original package here.
These hairpins work so well in my hair, they're really amazing!

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Miniature Copper Jell-O Mold - $4.00
from Romas Masion on etsy
I could make the tiniest Jell-O molds ever!

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Red Licorice Whip Vintage Floral Umbrella - $34.00
from Dahlila Found on etsy
I'll admit it's a little high for a vintage umbrella, but it's got a fantastic handle and it's not faded. Plus, I'd like a full umbrella stand.

Ball Collection Elite Platinum Wide Mouth Pint (16 oz) Jars - $5.49
from Canning Pantry (not on etsy)
These are my favorite type of mason jars. They're great for canning, freezing or just plain packing a lunch. They also fit perfectly in my lunchbox. Unfortunately, I've broken quite a few of mine, (because I'm clumsy, not because they're defective) so I'd really like some more.

Winsor & Newton Water Colour Lightweight Enamelled Box 24 Half Pans Set
from Winsor & Newton
When I was in middle school I had an art teacher who firmly believed that we should start out (young as we were) with quality art supplies so we wouldn't have to invest in them when we were older. I remember this annoying many parents, but it actually worked out to my advantage since I'm still using many of those same supplies today. Her favorite brand that she suggested buying was Winsor & Newton, and I was lucky enough to find a small set of water colours on sale at the time. That has been the best set of water colours. I've had to refill most of the pans, but I couldn't have asked for a better set. But now that I'm older I feel like I'd like to expand on those original 14 colours, so I'd really like a larger set. I'm also hoping it will get me painting again. Ever since I've started a career in design I've found myself drawing and painting less and less for myself. And I'd really like to start creating more of my own artwork again.
p.s. They have great gouache and paintbrushes as well. I've never found a paintbrush to compare with the Winsor & Newton 00 round Galeria & 5 round Cotman paintbrush.

Harney & Sons: Bangkok Tea - $12.50
A very unique tea that combines green tea, lemongrass, vanilla, coconut and ginger. It goes excellent with a Thai food dinner and it's great as an iced tea too.

Harney & Sons: Paris Black Tea - $8.00
Still my favorite tea, in fact I would love a cup of this right now.

Harney & Sons: White Peach Tea - $6.95
This is wonderful tea makes an excellent summer iced tea.

Digital Cooking Thermometer - $16.24
I've been needing one of these for awhile. I have my grandma's old mercury candy thermometer that I've been trying to use, but it's so inaccurate that it's pretty much useless. If I had one of these, I could make some swell marshmallows.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Pride & Prejudice Graphic Novel - $10.19
Yeah.... I'm a nerd.... and I like comic books... and Jane Austen.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Double Point or Circular #7 Knitting Needles - $7.49 to $8.99
You can never have too many knitting needles, and I'd really like something I could knit a hat with. Circular needles seem more versatile, but I'm not really sure not to work in a circle. But I'm pretty good at the smaller sock sized double pointed ones.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1" Biased Tape Maker - $8.49
I use a lot of biased tape when I sew and I'd love a way to make my own. I'm not sure how well this contraption would work, but I'm willing to give it a try.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Sharpie Liquid Pencils - $5.00
This seems like it would be the best of both pencils and pens.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Handmade Fabric Tape - $2.95
from Kawaii Goodies on etsy
I love this apple pattern, but she's got lots of other cute designs as well.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Variety of Bakers Twine - $6.95
from Paper Treats and Other Sweets on etsy
I'm already dreaming of all the things I could tie together.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Orion 1.25" Moon Filter - $19.95
I would be so happy to have a real moon filter so I could stop wearing those sunglasses at night.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

A Giant Handmade Telescope: The Ultimate Gift
(This is the telescope that Rachel from Craftzine received for Christmas last year. She is one lucky lady!)
I wish I had one! For me this would be better than getting a pony. I mean I LOVE my telescope, but this past year it's starting to show its age. The gears are slipping, and the engine is starting to break down, and when I see one of these giant light buckets, I get very envious. Sometimes I think about how I could cannibalize my telescope to create a bigger and better one, but with my luck I'd just end up with a big pile of scrap. Perhaps one day when it's broken down completely I'll give it a try. But until then I've always got my little one.
